Your month in films: how to do a recap together
Ten minutes on the first of the month to look back at what you watched. The questions that make a recap worth doing.
Year-end lists are fun, but a year is too long to remember well. A month is the right size: short enough that you remember every film, long enough to see a pattern.
Five questions for the first of the month
- What was the best film of the month, for each of you?
- Where were your scores furthest apart, and has either of you changed your mind?
- Which decade or country did you spend the most time in?
- Was there a film you would rewatch tomorrow?
- What do you want to watch next month that you keep putting off?
Look at the gap, not just the average
Your average score says little. The interesting number is how close your two scores were: the months you agree on everything, and the one film that split you.
Plan the next one
End every recap with one decision for the coming month: a director to explore, a classic to finally see, a genre one of you has been avoiding. If you need a starting point, the 30 best movies to watch as a couple has one for every mood.
